This week we are looking at plans from South Hams District Council for the commercialisation of Whitestrand Car Park which could prove to be controversial. They are planning to deck over a section and lease it out to a retail or catering outlet. It will be interesting to see the reaction of established businesses.
At the beginning of the month we had the unusual combination of half term week and wonderful weather. This brought hordes of people and the normal parking problems. This is the price we have to pay for the town flourishing and of course there are mixed feelings throughout the town.
We are due to lose our road sweeper at the end of the summer. It has been deemed that the streets can be cleaned by hit squads and a sweeping machine. It seems somebody has not seen the state of the place at 6a.m.
There has been a street party in Camperdown Road. This had welcome sponsorship from Salcombe Dairy in the form of ice cream and Balfour Beatty in the form of £258. The latter was a thank you to the community for their patience while the flood alleviation scheme is being carried out.
We are still short of town councillors – we now have 9 out of a possible 12. Details of how to apply can be found on Salcombe Town Council website or ringing the council office on 01548 842282.
