Last Sunday saw the Salcombe Civic Service at Holy Trinity Church conducted by Father Stephen Ball whilst Father Daniel French takes leave on his sabbatical.
Afterwards Salcombe’s league of helpers and volunteers made their way to Cliff House through some heavy rain and wind to enjoy a warm reception with a delicious traditional Sunday roast and a glass or two of wine, all prepared and served by local catering company, The Galley Girls.
Having addressed the guests, the Mayor presented the annually nominated ‘Citizen Of The Year Award’ to Joan Payne, who responded with a heart-felt speech reflecting on her life in Salcombe and how the town always pulls together, especially in these recent times of change.
A surprise presentation was also made to recently retired local police officer Steve Mullen who had served the community for many years, and always provided excellent balanced ‘traditional’ policing, for which he was warmly thanked him for.
Mayor Rob Wheeler said “This is the one annual opportunity for the town, through the town council, to say a big thank you to all the many volunteers and helpers who provide numerous clubs, charities, community services and associations for the people of the town. Something we all enjoy but must never take for granted.”
