Work started on Monday 10th March for the installation of fitness equipment at The Berry in Salcombe. This will take about 18 days to complete.
The need for a Trim Trail on the Berry was identified in the Open Space and Recreation Plan 2021-2031. The provision of more fitness and play equipment was further endorsed by the results of the recent Community Economic Project. Funding has been made available from the Batson Cross s106 agreement (planning application reference 41/1915/13/F). The facility will be managed and maintained for community use in Salcombe.
The equipment has been designed, manufactured and will be installed by Kompan, who are one of the world’s leading manufacturers of outdoor activity areas. The equipment consists of a fitness rig, dip bars, monkey bars, a fitness bench and sign, all on a wet pour safety surface.
It’s location is close to the children’s play area, just above the zip wire at the heart of what Salcombe Town Council hope to see as an improved open space for the enjoyment of all. This might be the start of several fitness zones in Salcombe and further investment in fitness and play on the Berry if further monies can be raised through future OSSR or other funding opportunities.
Salcombe Town Council hope this new facility will be enjoyed and used by many residents and visitors, and as an element to promote health, fitness and wellbeing in the town.
